BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSES
Basic Life Support is available in two different training methods – classroom training and HeartCode® blended learning. All BLS course options teach the same AHA science-based skills and result in the same AHA BLS Course Completion Card.
Both the Basic Life Support and HeartCode® BLS courses:
- Use AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which improves learning and retention.
- Include a classroom format that works well for learners who prefer group interaction and feedback while learning skills.
- Provide each student with high-quality course materials for ongoing reference.

Who should take these courses?
The AHA’s Basic Life Support (BLS) courses are designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. This can include nurses, physicians, nursing students, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, in-facility providers, and others.
